Thank you 1/Lt Lamb, 2/Lt & Mrs. Krock, and 1/Sgt Thompson for all the miles (translates directly into dollars) and efforts on behalf of our Union ‘Boys’, our heritage, and the 49th.
As always, you establish yourselves as True Blue to the memory of “The Boys of ‘61” as you offer fitting tribute from Missouri to Virginia.
And, thank you to our two commissioned officers for taking the time to write the AAR’s chronicling their activities and journeys…all of us enjoy ‘being there’ through your words!

Mike,

Not yet. That is one of the areas that we ae researching. Like the magnificently done "Regimentals" that were used during the war, many of these G.A.R. banners were commerically done (as was this one) by professional art houses and individuals. Tiffany and Company of New York was one of the companys who produced some of these.

Any information on who these flag painters were. The artistic detail on the banner for Post 209 is amazing

As Eddy demonstrates…it is wonderful when a community will rally to help restore an artifact which held significant importance to a past generation of citizen-soldiers.

Gentlemen,
First Corporal Stahr is so profoundly right in his insight! If there be any doubt in the minds that we are having an impact far beyond each of our own personal sacrifices to make this Regiment something truly unique, just look into the smiling face of young Corporal Zach; or ask the citizens of Eddyville.

Your acts of steadfast devotion are NOT un-noticed lads and are deeply appreciated by legions of people whom you may never meet.

Proudly,
1/Lt. D. Lamb

This was a busy week for many of the 49th.
What was great from my viewpoint was seeing a couple of new members in uniform and of course seeing those who have to travel such great distances at the expense of their own time and finances. We sometimes wish the crowds were larger but remember you can never measure the impact you might have on just one individual and how that impact can spread for generations to others. Well done gentlemen.

Web site statistics:
We have already shown an increase in visits to our web site this month over last month’s total, December 2010…to date, there are 444 visits compared to December’s final number of 332…and we are only on the eleventh day of January. (444 visits translates into 4225 pages accessed)
These stats demonstrate we are still moving forward with how to become better known at the state level and national level.
As we shift into the 150th observance of the American Civil War, this web site will continue to serve as the public vehicle for the Iowa Rifles’ good works.
Please, Brother Riflemen, continue to pass our web site’s address along to individuals who share True Blue interests in our Nation’s Civil War heritage.
Thank you,
Cpl Stahr
