Dan Rittel and Mike Carr, Nice job with the continued CW grave documenting. I sent info to allow a relative of James Hall Vernon. who is buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Council Bluffs to order a military stone.

On Sunday March 7, 2010, at 13:00 there will be Mandatory Drill for Co. A, 49th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ankeny. The Drill will be three hours long and begin at 1:00 and end a 4:00. Be sure to bring your brogans, and all leather gear, a can of Kiwi shoe polish, a shoe brush, and an old tee shirt, we are going to do GI-101. Anyone not mastering GI-101 will have remedial training until you do master it. I have the complete blessings, from the 1Sgt. and Commander on conducting this drill! And this is only the start; we are going to have them, throughout the rest of the year.
Looking forward to seeing you, Respectfully Submitted, David L. Thompson, Color Sergeant 49th IA Vol. Inf. Regiment, The Governor’s Own Iowa Rifles
