Reed Cemetery Ceremony Brush Creek, IA (Arlington)
September 18, 2010 11:00 A.M.
Reed Cemetery is an Iowa Pioneer Cemetery. The ladies who have cared for this cemetery requested a ceremony which would recognize the veterans interred within the boundaries of this necropolis.
There are four American Civil War veterans and one War of 1812 Veteran who attend their Final Post.
On Saturday, September 18 at 11:00 a.m., members of the SUVCW, SVR, and the 49th Iowa Color Guard will pay honorable tribute to each of these veterans for their service.
For all participants of this ceremony, a luncheon will be served following the ceremony, made available thru the efforts of C & J Stahr.
Sunday 19 September 2010 at 10:00 AM - Sherman Hills Tour of Historic Homes - Des Moines
When: Sunday 19 September 2010 at 10:00 AM Ends: Sunday 19 September 2010 at 04:00 PM
Location: Sherman Hills, Des Moines
This is the Sherman Hill Association’s annual Tour of Historic Homes. They usually have 15 to 20 of the homes in the neighborhood open to the public.
This is only done two consecutive weekends in September.
The Sherman Hill Association has asked us to come and provide "Civil War Color" to the event that centers on Hoyt Sherman Place and the homes of Generals Crocker and Tuttle that are in the same neighborhood.
We will "circulate" throughout the neighborhood and also set up for a "Meet and Greet" to collect donations, so basically, I guess it's a fund-raiser.
NOTE:
We will be there from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Sunday the 19th unless the weather is nasty; in which case we will go on the 26th.
Contact David M. Lamb for a mustering location.
Friday 24 September 2010 - Annual Celebration and Monument Fund Raising - Eddyville
We have committed to being present for their "Eddy Days municipal celebration and are more or less headlining this year's event viz our pledge to restore the monument in their city park. They are advertising the coming of The Governor's Own in a big way and expecting for us to take in considerable monies in donations during our participation in the events on the weekend of September 24-25th-26th, 2010.
Those who wish to go down on Friday, September 24th and camp are welcome to set up on the West End of the City Park (where the statue of Eddy is located). Firewood and water will be available.
For those NOT interested in camping out, we need to be on-station NLT 0830Hours on Saturday. We will be participating in a parade activity that has a step-off time of 10:00am. We will then return to the park where we will conduct a Meet and Greet with the community and visitors for the remainder of the day. We will be setting up our artifact and equipment displays, "recruiting" neighborhood kids into the ranks, issuing "Quaker rifles" and drillling them a bit on the town square. And, of course, taking their money for the restoration of there own statue.
I will be meeting with SHSI tomorrow to see about also having their travelling "Lincoln in Iowa" display parked near our camp so that paople can go through that exhibit as well.
Since this is probably our Second Most Important event of the year (next to Gettysburg) I would like to see every member of this Regiment in attendance if it is at all possible. We are all about Eddyville this year, lads, and your efforts to be there will do a great service to this most worthy cause. If you can only make one more event this year (other than Gettysburg) this would be the one to be at.
Please let me know if you plan to Camp on site overnight on Friday and or Saturday nights so that I can give them an idea of how much wood and water to lay in for us.
