Borrowing from the idea of the Wreaths Across America Project, Guardsmen of the 49th Regiment of Iowa Volunteer Infantry (SVR Honor Guard for the Department of Iowa) have manufactured and placed Christmas Wreaths at the G.A.R. sections of Des Moines' Woodland and Glendale Cemeteries as well as at the gravesite of Sarah Palmer Young, and at the Iowa Veterans' Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

"Plans are in the works for this remembrance gesture to be broadened in coming years to include other Grand Army sections in cemeteries across the state of Iowa, as this becomes yet another 'tradition of the Regiment' in honoring our nations' veterans", according to 1/Sgt Lamb, the unit's commander.
